This paper described to the evaluation of the drive characteristics of a double-ring wheelchair, which is able to be operated with one hand, using electromyography (EMG) and driving torque. This study constructed the synchronized measurement system both EMG and driving torque. This study recruited nine younger participants, and we carried out to measure the EMG and the torque while one hand operation by the double-ring wheelchair. The results showed that the constructed system was able to measure EMG and torque is parallelly with one-handed while straight-ahead running motion assuming a field test of the wheelchair. Addition, the analysis results showed that muscle activity was shown to correlate with driving torque during wheelchair operation. In conclusions, this study elucidated that is able to evaluate the drive characteristics for wheelchair using both EMG and driving torque.

Key words: Wheelchair, One-hand Operation, Synchronized Measurement, EMG, Driving Torque
