Sensorimotor integration function and proprioceptive control in lower extremities are necessary for trunk balance and skillful movement. The difficulty of proprioceptive assessment in clinical scene prompts physical therapists to use helpful evaluation apparatus. Therefore, we have developed a quantitative evaluation system for sensorimotor integration function and proprioception of lower extremities. In this paper we applied the evaluation system to surgical patients with intramedullary spinal cord tumor which entails postoperative posterior column injury with temporary proprioceptive aggravation after surgery. The evaluation system confirmed not only proprioceptive disturbance in the immediate postoperative period, but also the proprioceptive restoration including sensorimotor integration function sequentially during perioperative periods. The evaluation system is promising in the treatment of neuromuscular disorders at a clinical rehabilitation scene.
