Transfer assistance is a daily duty with high risk of a low-back pain for health care workers. It is recommended that a patient is transferred in a sitting position on a transfer board with low-friction. The new concept for the transfer board similar to a conveyer belt is proposed, and the prototype of the proposed board is developed. Physical load of health care workers is quantified by articular moments at shoulders, a chest, thighs and knees. It is also estimated by muscular activities measured from the erector spinae, multifidus, latissimus dorsi and pectoralis major muscles during transfer assistance. The prototype could reduce physical load at shoulders, a chest, thighs and knees for support of patientfs body as well as that at shoulders and a chest for lateral movement of patientfs body to a bed or a wheelchair. The safety and usefulness of the prototype are evaluated by patients and care workers in a nursing home.
