Since the amplitude of some consonants such as voiceless consonant is low, listening to these consonants tends to be affected by environmental noise. When a speech is delivered in a noisy environment, listeners may experience difficulty in grasping the contents of the speech in spite of it being audible. In this study, small portions of speech were amplified by amplitude compression. As a result, word intelligibility scores among young listeners without hearing disabilities in a noisy environment improved a maximum rise of 30 points.
